Check out Katherine Groo’s excellent article, “Cut, Paste, Glitch, and Stutter: Remixing Film History” which makes reference to  (among many other topics) the Orphans project:

Film: San Francisco Earthquake Aftermath: Riding Down Market Street (1906) [From the Prelinger archives]

Music: Melancholia #2, Ross Whyte

At last month’s Orphans showcase, writer Claudio Tapia and I performed a piece which involved live narration, projected video and live music.  Claudio and his daughter Mo documented our initial encounter, rehearsal and eventual performance at the Belmont Cinema.  The film is in two parts and can be viewed here:

I’ve added a new page to the site:

This includes video and images from the Belmont Picturehouse event held on the 21st October 2012.  Keep checking for updates…

There’s going to be some fantastic work being performed/screened throughout the day.

Further details coming soon…

I’m very happy to announce that musician/author Claudio Tapia will be screening one of his short audio-visual works at the upcoming Orphans event (21st October).  In addition, Claudio and I will be giving a live performance in the bar area of the Belmont Picturehouse.  This will include video projection and narration of a text by Claudio with live electronics from me.  Further details to follow soon.

Check out his website – his biog page reads like a Raymond Carver short story…but with a happy ending.  Very cool.

In the meantime, you can get further information about the event and book tickets here:

Preparations for the next Orphans gig at The Belmont Picturehouse are slowly coming together.  Following the call for new audio-visual works, there have been some amazing submissions.  The event will include a screening of these works – each of which make use of “found” materials in some incredibly imaginative ways.  In addition, there will be several live performances in the bar area.  So far, the artists on the bill include Pascal Battus, Adam Cresser, Richard Craig, Claudio Tapia and myself.  There will also be new audio-visual installations running throughout the day and a wide range of some pretty decent grub care of E.A.R.L (the Chilli Bowl is highly recommended!)  I’ll also be screening a selection of my own shorts from the Orphans series.

There are still a couple of weeks left to submit your work.  If you’re interested, follow the instructions here.

The selected works will be screened at Aberdeen’s Belmont Picturehouse  on Sunday 21st October as part of Sound Festival 2012 and featured on the Orphans website (

Further information to follow shortly…

I’m happy to confirm that Orphans will be given a second airing at The Belmont Picturehouse as part of this year’s Sound Festival on 21st October.

This time the event will be on a much larger scale.  As well as screening my own works, I’ll soon be putting out a call for new audio-visual compositions.  More info on that soon.  There will be live performances in the bar by flautist Richard Craig and myself, sound artist Pascal Battus, and other acts still to be confirmed, as well as a collection of audio-visual installations.

For now, here’s a little taster:
